Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common, contagious viral illness. It usually causes fever, painful mouth sores, and a rash or blisters on hands and feet, and most people recover within 7 to 10 days.
Chickenpox
Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral illness that causes an itchy rash of spots and blisters, often with fever or tiredness. It is usually mild in healthy children but needs prompt advice in babies, adults, pregnancy, and reduced immunity.
Measles
Measles is a highly contagious viral respiratory disease. Fever, cough, runny nose, and red watery eyes are followed by a rash that usually begins on the face and spreads downward. Suspected measles needs prompt call-ahead medical advice.
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
Conjunctivitis, often called pink eye, can make one or both eyes red, gritty, watery, itchy, or sticky. Viruses, bacteria, allergies, and irritants can overlap, so pain, light sensitivity, vision change, or a red eye in a contact-lens wearer needs prompt eye assessment.
Dengue
Dengue is a viral illness spread by infected mosquitoes. Fever with headache, pain behind the eyes, body aches, nausea, or rash can be dengue, but only a blood test can confirm it. Urgent warning signs can begin as the fever goes away.
Chikungunya
Chikungunya is a viral illness spread by infected mosquitoes. Sudden fever with prominent joint pain, swelling, headache, fatigue, or rash can overlap with dengue and other infections, so clinical testing matters. Joint pain can outlast the fever.
Typhoid Fever
Typhoid is a potentially serious bacterial infection usually spread through contaminated food or water. Persistent fever with fatigue, headache, nausea, belly pain, constipation, or diarrhoea needs clinical assessment because it overlaps with many illnesses. Blood testing and clinician-selected antibiotics are important.
Malaria
Malaria is a serious parasitic infection spread by some mosquitoes. Fever, chills, headache, aches, vomiting, or diarrhoea can be malaria but overlap with many illnesses. Prompt blood testing and clinician-directed treatment are essential, especially after travel or residence in an at-risk area.
Flu (Influenza)

Mouth Ulcers
Mouth ulcers, also called canker sores or aphthous ulcers, are common painful sores inside the mouth. They usually settle within 1 to 2 weeks and are not the same as contagious cold sores. An ulcer that lasts, recurs often, looks different, or makes eating or drinking difficult needs dental or clinical advice.
Toothache
Toothache can come from tooth decay, a cracked tooth, gum disease, a loose filling, sensitivity, or an infection. Pain that lasts more than 2 days, disrupts sleep or daily life, comes with swelling or fever, or follows an injury needs dental advice. Trouble breathing or swallowing with swelling is an emergency.
Bad Breath
Bad breath, also called halitosis, is common and often starts in the mouth—from plaque, the tongue surface, food, smoking, dry mouth, tooth decay, or gum disease. A simple oral-care routine often helps. Persistent bad breath, especially with bleeding or swollen gums, tooth pain, loose teeth, or a dry mouth, deserves a dental check.
Dry Mouth
Dry mouth means there is not enough saliva to keep the mouth comfortably moist. It can happen temporarily with dehydration, anxiety, or mouth breathing, but persistent dryness may be linked to medicines, a blocked nose, oral thrush, diabetes, Sjögren's disease, or cancer treatment. It can raise the risk of tooth decay and mouth infections, so persistent symptoms deserve dental or medical advice.
